Newsletter Sep 2013

Dear Parents

By now your child will be well settled at St. John’s and we hope that he/she will be very happy here.  If you have any queries or concerns please contact us.

A calendar of school holidays for the year was given to all pupils before the summer break.  Anyone who did not receive same can get a copy from the school office.

A sincere thank you to all those who have paid the Heating Contribution of €40 (€70 for 2 or more) and also the payment for Arts/Crafts/Tests of €25.00.
A reminder to those who have not yet paid.

Please inform the office if you have recently changed address or telephone number so we can keep our contact details up to date.

Discovering & Perfoming Music Programme – 2nd & 3rd classes are participating in the Discovering & Performing Music programme this year where they will learn to play the organ/guitar over the course of 20 lessons with a qualified tutor.

The school recently received a cheque for €1,000 from Green Farm Foods. Substitute teacher Ms Aveen
McHugh came first in their on line game and nominated St. John’s N.S. as
beneficiary which we are most grateful for.

Summer Works – maintenance works to the value of €15,000 were carried out in the school over the Summer holidays.  These works involved the raising and roofing of a flat roof and rebuilding of a chimney to fix leaks.  The staff room also received a face lift.  The guttering to the Sports hall had also to be replaced with special rubber inserts costing €2,500.  These repairs were carried out without any extra grants from the D.E.S.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION AGM – The AGM of our Parents Association will be held in the School on Wednesday 9th of October at 8.30pm.  New members are most welcome.

Following the success of last years “Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal”, we are hoping that parents will support us in this worthy cause again this year.  The Christmas shoe boxes travel to areas of severe poverty in Eastern Europe & Africa.  If you are interested in taking part please bring your shoebox to Ms Devenney in Room 2 by November 6th 2013.

Dates To Remember:
• Mon 28th Oct – Fri 1st Nov. – school closed for Mid term break.
• Thursday 10th April 2014 – First Confession.
• Sunday 25th May 2014 – First Holy Communion.

Our website has been awarded the Star Site award on Scoilnet.  Congratulations to Mr Hartnett for all his hard work on same.  Check out our website at:

A reminder to all parents that parking is strictly prohibited along the driveway.  I would again appeal to parents to please park along Temple Street to avoid traffic congestion and to keep the driveway clear for any emergencies.  Otherwise the B.O.M. may have to consider parking restrictions.

HALLOWEEN ASSEMBLY -   We will have a fancy dress assembly in the hall on Friday 25th of October at 10.30am where everyone can dress up if they wish.  All are welcome.

No  Smoking – A reminder to all parents that smoking is prohibited on the school grounds.  Our litter wardens have reported that the majority of the litter that they collect are cigarette butts.
